Located in Nanjing in the eastern province of Jiangsu, China, Nanjing Medical University (NMU) was originally founded in 1934 as Jiangsu Provincial College of Health Policy and Management before relocating from Zhenjiang to Nanjing and changing its name in 1957. It now has more than 15,000 students and attracts around 500 new international students every year.
NMU was one of the first universities to offer English-taught bachelor’s in medicine programs, as approved by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China (MOE).
The university has two campuses, Wutai and Jiangning, based in different districts of Nanjing. Undergraduate courses are taught at the larger campus, Jiangning, which is a center for administration, teaching and research, while postgraduate courses are taught at Wutai, which is a center of clinical teaching and research.
NMU is also a center of medical literature, with its university library hosting more than 1.08 million printed medical resources, 1.5 million e-resources and over 6,000 journals in a variety of languages, while the university itself publishes 11 academic journals. It’s also affiliated with 29 hospitals and more than 50 teaching hospitals in the provinces of Jiangsu, Shanghai,and Shandong.
