Students who major in Human Performance and Fitness will be prepared for professional certification and employment in exercise, fitness, and/or health education. The student will gain a broad knowledge of the physiological mechanical and psychological functions of the human body. Students become aware of the concepts that influence motor learning, behavior change, and society of sport. Students will be prepared for the American College of Sports Medicine Health/Fitness Specialist certification exam, the National Strength and Conditioning Association CSCS exam, and/or graduate studies in related fields. Minors available through the HPE Department include health education and coaching. The health education minor offers preparation in the areas of first aid and CPR, personal health, community health, school health, and K-12 methods of health instruction. The coaching minor prepares varsity and youth sport coaches and leads to a coaching endorsement. As part of the system general education requirements, students should select biology in Goal #6. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 2.6; Rank in the top 60 percent of high school class. Other English Language Requirements: They need to score 525 or above on TOEFL PBT and 41 or above on PTE.
