Virtually all businesses and organizations rely on information systems and there is a constant need for individuals who understand how technology can be used to solve business problems and enhance business opportunities. A degree in Management Information Systems (MIS) will provide students with a strong background in business, combined with robust technological skills, which will supply graduates with the competencies needed to lead organizations into highly competitive global markets. In today’s high-tech global community, a person with a combination of information systems skills and business skills can look forward to an exciting career filled with opportunities to serve as an agent of change and of organizational advancement. Students who complete the MIS program at NSU are at the forefront of the high-tech revolution in business. Students majoring in MIS will learn how information systems can be used to meet corporate goals, both nationally and internationally. MIS majors will learn to analyze, design, and implement information systems and networks, develop and apply software and database applications and design and use decision support systems in business environments in preparation for a variety of career opportunities in information systems. Course topics include object-oriented programming, systems analysis, database management systems, telecommunications and networks for business, website development, web programming, and decision support systems, as well as numerous support courses. Information systems courses provide students with the leading-edge skills that are demanded in today’s job market. Students who complete the MIS degree will be prepared for a variety of careers, depending upon the range of electives that they select, including careers as programmers, systems analysts, database administrators, network administrators, website developers, and web programmers; in addition, they will be provided with the skills needed to become Information Systems Managers or Chief Information Officers of both small and large corporations and organizations. MIS continues to be one of the fastest growing and highest salaried professions in the world. As a consequence, those individuals who are well prepared in this area will continue to be in high demand. Additionally, the MIS curriculum prepares students for advanced graduate work in information systems.
