The English degree program at Seaver College allows students to examine humanity in all its intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and emotional complexity through literary analysis and intensive writing. Students of literature and composition learn the power of words, as well as how the right words can shape and influence select situations. This heightened awareness of language is what distinguishes our students, equipping them with a skill set that translates to a world of possibilities. Our small English classes allow students to interact regularly with faculty. Enriched by a constant practice of reading and writing, students shape their major by choosing one of three areas in which to concentrate: literature, writing, or education. In all concentrations, English majors sharpen their writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in preparation for their chosen career paths. Literature: Students focus on the development of the American and British literary traditions. Writing: Students focus on rhetoric and the composition process. Education: Students prepare to teach English at the secondary level and receive their certification upon completion of their degree. Careers with an English degree include: Business/Marketing Advertising/brand manager Commerce journalist Digital/marketing strategist Marketing manager/director Sales account manager Education Curriculum developer Librarian Professor Teacher School administrator Film and television Archivist Film editor Screenwriter Stage designer Fine Arts Art conservator Art director Curator Set designer Health Hospital director Medical interpreter School counselor Legal Attorney Court interpreter Judge Paralegal stenographer Media Media buyer New media specialist Social media manager Non-profit executive/program director Government Ambassador FBI analyst Interpreter Speech writer Publishing Journalist Managing editor Translator Religion Pastor Youth minister Missionary parachurch leader Technology IT project manager Technical recruiter Technical writer
