The MSc degree program provides a solid understanding of the laws governing the relations between the material properties and the performances of the final components, going from the atomic scale to the microscopic and macroscopic structure of materials. These skills acquired are essential to critically select existing materials according to design needs and to proactively contribute to the conception, design and development of new materials. Furthermore, the deep study of materials fabrication technologies, processes and treatment provides future engineers with a capacity to analyze and decide on causes and effects of potential defects introduced by the manufacturing route.
Finally, the degree program offers many mobility opportunities for students, thanks to the double degree and exchange agreements with other international Universities. Employment opportunities range from mechanical industries to surface and air transport, from energy production to nano-materials, from micromechanics to microelectronics and biomedical materials. The degree program trains materials engineers to ft the following professional profiles: MATERIAL ENGINEER, WORKING IN THE INDUSTRIAL AND RESEARCH SECTOR MATERIALS ENGINEER OPERATING AS TECHNICAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMER SUPPORT, AS A CONSULTANT OR IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION The high level of technical and scientific knowledge allows for immediate working opportunities or the pursuit of further knowledge with a II level Master or a PhD program offered by Politecnico, for those who have a strong research activity vocation.
