About Purdue University

Founded in 1869 as Indiana’s land-grant institution, Purdue University is a top-ranked public research university recognized globally for innovation, accessibility and impact. Purdue leads with excellence at scale — serving over 106,000 students across multiple campuses, locations and learning modalities, including more than 57,000 at its main campus locations in West Lafayette and Indianapolis.

Purdue advances research, discovery and economic development statewide and beyond. From pioneering the first university-owned airport to creating the world’s first college credit in flight training, Purdue has helped shape the history of aviation and space exploration. Its School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, home to the Cradle of Astronauts, has produced 30 (and counting) astronauts, including Neil Armstrong and Gene Cernan — the first and last humans to walk on the moon.

Today Purdue continues its persistent pursuit of the next giant leap — expanding its mission through integrated initiatives such as the Mitch Daniels School of Business, Purdue Computes, One Health, and a growing Hard Tech Corridor linking Indianapolis and West Lafayette. With 12 academic colleges, more than 200 undergraduate majors, and research excellence spanning agriculture, engineering, health and business, Purdue’s main campus combines world-class innovation with the accessibility of a public land-grant university. Affordable, ambitious and unrelenting in its pursuit of progress, Purdue prepares Boilermakers to make their mark on the world — again and again and again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Scholarships at Purdue are based on a combination of admission type and financial status upon admission. To ensure maximum consideration for all financial aid available to new Purdue students, high school seniors should apply by 1 November each year and meet the Early Action deadline. Students seeking financial aid should submit their FAFSA and the Supplemental Scholarship Application (if required by the college of application) by 15 December.  In addition to financial aid, Purdue University has frozen tuition fees for over 10 years, making admission and affordability more accessible for students from a variety of backgrounds.  International students hoping to apply to Purdue should note that the university’s institutional status means undergraduate international applicants are largely ineligible for funding to study.
