By combining Classics (75% of the course) with Philosophy (25%) students can study ancient Greek and Latin as the major element of their degree alongside ancient and modern philosophy. With roots of the subject anchored in the ancient world, Philosophy makes an ideal partner for classical subjects. Classical Studies offers a great deal of choice in subjects related to the ancient world, immersing students in lots of aspects of ancient Greece and Rome – its literature, history, philosophy and archaeology – even its languages; Greek and Latin can be studied at whatever level one at and for one, two or three years. At Royal Holloway, the approach to Philosophy that looks beyond the narrow confines of the Anglo-American analytic or the European tradition of philosophy focus on both traditions, their relationship and connections between them. The result has been the creation of a truly interdisciplinary and collaborative course that brings together academic staff from departments across the university.
