Candidates who successfully complete the elementary/early childhood education major are eligible to apply for Maryland State Department of Education certification in early childhood education, grades PreK-3 and elementary education, grades 1-6. Our work is guided by a conceptual framework centered on knowledge, skills and dispositions, critical for today’s educators to promote student success. As a teacher candidate majoring in Early Childhood Education, you are expected to complete a rigorous program of study which meets state and national standards. This program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and approved by the Maryland State Department of Education for elementary school teacher certification (Pre-K-Grade 3). Candidates who successfully complete our requirements graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Teacher Education in the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies. Elementary Education As a teacher candidate majoring in Elementary Education, you are expected to complete a rigorous program of study which meets state and national standards. This program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by the Maryland State Department of Education for elementary school teacher certification (Grades 1-6). Candidates who successfully complete our requirements graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree from the Department of Teacher Education in the Seidel School of Education and Professional Studies.
