Institute of Linguistics and Intercultural Communication is a unique new structure for a medical university, created as a development institute. Today it is a large, dynamically developing division of Sechenov University. The main activity of the Institute is participation In the implementation of all programs of higher and secondary education. Our areas of expertise are: foreign languages (English, German, French), Latin and medical terminology, Russian as a foreign language. The Institute implements unique master's programs in the field of Linguistics. Students and young scientists of Sechenov University master their skills of working with information resources in foreign languages, speaking at international scientific conferences, participating in clinical conferences and consultations in the usual format at the classes of the interdisciplinary student scientific circle of the Institute (sections of English, German, French, Latin, Russian) and training seminars of the Office of Academic Writing. The teaching staff of the Institute is international, including representatives of such countries as Russia, Great Britain, USA, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Ghana, France. The team aims to train a new generation of specialists in the field of healthcare and linguistics based on a combination of Western European and American traditions in the methodology of teaching foreign languages, in the study of intercultural communication, and Russian theoretical and experimental approaches in the field of psycholinguistics and ethnopsycholinguistics. Institute’s main partner in the development of research and training programs is the Department of Psycholinguistics of the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The main directions of scientific research carried out by a team of teachers and students are:
* ethno-cultural specifics of everyday and professional language consciousness of native speakers of different languages,
* ethno-cultural image of the world,* Internet communication In the cross-cultural aspect,
* translation and medical terminology* cross-cultural professional communication and problems of achieving mutual understanding in cross-cultural communication in general. A number of research projects of the institute are carried out by international research groups:

Institute 's mission : All linguists know how different the world may look through the prism of different languages. This difference sometimes makes us curious and attracted to an unknown culture, or may give ground to intercultural misunderstandings. The cause of misunderstanding is the dissimilar cultural or ethnic-specific images of the world investigated by Russian Ethnopsycholinguistics since the early 1970s. Based on the Theory of Linguistic Image of the World and the Lacuna Theory students will develop their own effective communication strategies to overcome barriers in the path of mutual understanding and cooperation.
Mission, strategy and outcomes of the Programme:
- This innovative master's program is to promote intercultural understanding in general, and in a professional setting in particular, enabling graduates to prevent intercultural misunderstandings and conflicts.
- This master's program provides knowledge and skills for successful participation in a dialogue with people from different cultural background. You will gain practical experience in applying various techniques and tools to identify, analyse and successfully solve intercultural communication problems Ina multicultural setting.
- A unique opportunity for doctors with knowledge of foreign languages and linguist. interested in mastering medical translation and professional communication to improve their professional level and competitiveness. The educational program is aimed at training highly qualified specialists in the field of intercultural professional communication and medical translation. Masters of Linguistics get the opportunity to teach linguistic, translation and cultural disciplines, work as translators in the field of professional communication, cooperate with international companies and organizations, engage in research activities, including continuing their education in graduate school.
- Gaining this Master's Degree may also serve as a springboard into further studies of Intercultural Communication and obtaining a PhD degree (Candidate of Science in Linguistics) from the Institute of Linguistics of the Russian Academy of science.
Graduates will be able to operate in an international context, in any field where intercultural skills are in demand. They will be qualified for employment in the international job market in both public and private sector, including working for:

The Curriculum of the Programme developed by the University in accordance with the FSES GM requirements and the Professional Standard uses a competence-based approach which determines that upon completion of the Programme graduates shall demonstrate full mastering of all the competencies necessary for successful independent practice as a Physician, M.D. Successful mastering of the Programme supposes consistent passing of disciplines of the Curriculum. The applied teaching methods ensure the process of gradual mastering of the curriculum's disciplines based on the principle of increasing complexity, which makes it possible to effectively develop the necessary competencies among the students. The knowledge and skills acquired within each discipline serve as a basis for the study of subsequent disciplines of the curriculum, and also ensure the graduates' readiness for further training, either in residency or at graduate school (PhD). Each discipline involves theoretical component and practical skills training.

To be eligible for undergraduate study at Sechenov University applicants should have completed secondary school education and pass the entrance exams in chemistry and biology. Tuition fees at undergraduate level vary depending on the subject and are between RUB 480,000-530,000 (US$8,420-9,300) per year.

At postgraduate level, Sechenov University offers 70 postgraduate degrees, including three-year clinical residency programs, four-year PhD courses, and one-year internships, fully taught in Russian or English. Available topics include:
To be eligible for postgraduate study, students must have notarized Russian translations of their diplomas, transcripts, passports, as well as their CV, a teacher reference, 12 matte-passport sized photos and an HIV-negative test. Postgraduate tuition fees range depending on the degree level and subject and go up to RUB 320,000 (US$5,600) a year.
