Sklifosovsky Institute for Clinical Medicine is the successor of the medical faculty of Sechenov University. Sklifosovsky Institute for Clinical Medicine is the leader of higher medical education in Russia. It can rightfully claim the title of the largest medical faculty in the country — about 8,000 students study here from all over Russia-from Vladivostok to Kaliningrad. Sklifosovsky Institute for Clinical Medicine provides training in the specialty 31.05.01 “General Medicine”. Full-time training is conducted in Russian and / or English. After six years of training, graduates are awarded a specialist diploma “Medical Doctor”.
Institute’s mission : The Institute of clinical medicine of Sechenov University carries out scientific and educational activities in practical and theoretical medical disciplines aimed at the implementation and improvement of the scientific, educational and medical process.
Based on the University’s development strategy, the Institute has identified the leading development targets for the period 2018-2023:
- formation of a unified scientific and educational space for the implementation of an effective educational program management system;
- improving the practical application of digital education techniques;
- formation of the modern architecture of the educational environment of the Institute;
- implementation of a sustainable model of research and international cooperation;
- conducting fundamental and applied research and promoting it at the Federal and international levels;
- implementation of the educational concept of the University and orientation of students to professional activities;
- implementation of effective mechanisms of network interaction;
- presentation of research results on leading international resources;
- optimization of the treatment process with the introduction of both own and international achievements in the field of diagnostics, prevention and human diseases;
- implementation of joint research projects that allow developing and implementing new methods in the treatment process.
Mission, strategy and outcomes of the Programme:
The specialist’s degree programme in General Medicine (hereinafter “the Programme”) is designed to prepare a qualified physician, M.D. possessing a system of universal professional competencies, capable and ready for independent occupational practice. The Programme will develop general cultural, general professional and professional competencies, which will allow a graduate to carry out independent practice as a physician, M.D. Successful graduates, will be able to solve the following professional tasks:
medical activities:
- prevention of the occurrence of diseases among the population through preventive and anti-epidemic measures;
- conducting preventive medical examinations, periodic health examination, dispensary observation;
- the collection and medical-statistical analysis of information on the health indicators of the population of different age and sex groups, characterizing their health status;
- diagnosis of diseases and pathological conditions of patients;
- pregnancy diagnosis;
- examination of temporary disability and participation in other types of medical expertise;
- provision of primary medical and sanitary care in outpatient and day care settings;
- rendering primary medical and health care in case of sudden acute diseases, conditions, exacerbation of chronic diseases that are not accompanied by a threat to the patient’s life and do not require emergency medical care;
- participation in the provision of emergency medical care in conditions requiring urgent medical intervetion;
- emergency medical care, including participation in medical evacuation;
- participation in the conduct of medical rehabilitation and sanatorium-resort treatment;
- formation of motivation among the population, patients and their family members, aimed at preserving and strengthening their health and the health of those around them;
- patient education on basic hygiene measures of a health-improving nature, contributing to the prevention of the onset of diseases and health promotion;
- organizational and management activities;
- application of the basic principles of the organization of medical care in medical organizations and their structural units;
- creation in medical organizations of favorable conditions for the stay of patients and the work of medical personnel;
- keeping medical records in medical organizations;
- organization of medical expert consultation;
- participation in the organization of the assessment of the quality of care for patients;
- compliance with basic information security requirements;
research activities:
- analysis of scientific literature and official statitstical reviews, participation in the conduct of statistical analysis and public presentation of the results;
- participation in solving individual research, scientific and applied tasks in the field of health care for diagnosis, treatment, medical rehabilitation and prevention.
The Sklifosovsky Institute for Clinical Medicine has 49 departments, many of which participate in the educational process in most areas of training (specializations) implemented by the University.
Curriculum
The Curriculum of the Programme developed by the University in accordance with the FSES GM requirements and the Professional Standard uses a competence-based approach which determines that upon completion of the Programme graduates shall demonstrate full mastering of all the competencies necessary for successful independent practice as a Physician, M.D. Successful mastering of the Programme supposes consistent passing of disciplines of the Curriculum. The applied teaching methods ensure the process of gradual mastering of the curriculum’s disciplines based on the principle of increasing complexity, which makes it possible to the graduates’ readiness for further training, either in residency or at graduate school (PhD). Each discipline involves theoretical component and practical skills training.

To be eligible for undergraduate study at Sechenov University applicants should have completed secondary school education and pass the entrance exams in chemistry and biology. Tuition fees at undergraduate level vary depending on the subject and are between RUB 480,000-530,000 (US$8,420-9,300) per year.

At postgraduate level, Sechenov University offers 70 postgraduate degrees, including three-year clinical residency programs, four-year PhD courses, and one-year internships, fully taught in Russian or English. Available topics include:
To be eligible for postgraduate study, students must have notarized Russian translations of their diplomas, transcripts, passports, as well as their CV, a teacher reference, 12 matte-passport sized photos and an HIV-negative test. Postgraduate tuition fees range depending on the degree level and subject and go up to RUB 320,000 (US$5,600) a year.
To apply, register online with a photocopy of your passport and secondary school diploma. International students should apply for a visa, once they receive an offer of admissions.
