Pharmaceutical technology - candidate

Candidates in pharmaceutical technology gain a solid knowledge of all phases of drug development - with particular emphasis on biopharma.

The pharmaceutical industry has a great need for candidates with a broad knowledge of drug development, especially in the field of drugs based on biological molecules, which is a global growth area in the pharmaceutical industry - for example in age-related diseases, cancer, complex lifestyle diseases, autoimmune diseases and certain infectious diseases.

The focus of the education

During the master's program in pharmaceutical technology, you learn to design, develop and test medicines as it is done in the pharmaceutical industry. You will gain broad competences within the entire pharmaceutical area, e.g. within diagnostics and nanotechnological treatment methods. The legislative matters surrounding documentation, approval and distribution of medicinal products are naturally also included in the educational direction.

The pharmaceutical technology core of the master's program consists of a number of compulsory courses in the pharmaceutical industry drug discovery process as well as a number of high-level biological courses supplemented by in-depth courses in methods and techniques.

'Pharmatechnology' is offered according to a new and original education concept, where project work in close collaboration with relevant pharmaceutical companies forms a large part of the education.

The companies provide concrete problems for the project courses, so you will use your technical and scientific knowledge to solve current research and development problems in the pharmaceutical industry. In this way, you learn to solve "real life cases", while at the same time expanding and specializing your knowledge and skills on a theoretical level.

Specializations

At 'Pharmatechnology' you get a clear candidate profile. There are no fixed study courses or specialisations, but rather the possibility to choose from a pool of technological specialization courses - as well as the large range of optional courses at DTU. You can therefore shape your own education and career and become a Pharmaceutical Technologist with just the individual profile that best suits your interests and background.

You can profile yourself in the entire spectrum from chemistry to biology - and within the pharmaceutical process in everything from discovery/method development to development to production. But you can also choose to emphasize product characterization, clinical trials, rights management or post-marketing surveillance.
