Develop your understanding of business analytics and learn how organisations use data to make better decisions. This MSc prepares you for careers specialising in data and decision analysis, helping you develop the technical, analytical and problem-solving skills sought by employers. You'll gain hands-on experience using the latest business intelligence software and interpreting real data.
You can tailor the course to your interests and career ambitions by selecting optional units. Topics available include advanced business forecasting, advanced data visualisation, operations strategy and project management.
In the summer, you can choose to complete either:
- a dissertation based on real data, which may provide opportunities to work with a partner organisation, or
- a summer internship.
Internship places are competitive and are not guaranteed.

Among MSc Business Analytics graduates from the class of 2024, 93% were employed six months after completing the course and 70% were employed in the UK. They had an average salary of £48,000 and a top salary of £91,000. Employers include Jisc, Mistral Data, Aviva and Pfizer.
You'll have opportunities to apply what you learn and develop professional skills throughout the course through business challenges, careers fairs, guest speakers and engagement with external organisations. Industry partners include organisations such as IBM, Qlik, WinPure and the Women in OR & Analytics Network.

Admission Requirements
Type of degree: 2:2 to 2:1 or above (or its international equivalent). Your degree can be in any discipline but you must have studied a subject with high quantitative content.
You will be better suited to this course if you have studied business or management, or studied a subject with high quantitative content, such as:
- mathematics/statistics
- computer science
- engineering
- physics
- a quantitative social science
Programming experience: Previous experience of computer programming is an advantage. You should include information about your quantitative and programming experience in your personal statement.
Work experience: In exceptional cases, relevant work experience may be a substitute for the degree requirement. You should have no more than three years’ relevant work experience.
