The Bachelor’s
program in Optometry at University of Buraimi aims to prepare clinically
competent professionals who can communicate skillfully and knowledgeably with
patients and other professionals, and to uphold high standards of professional
integrity and behavior. The program is of 4 yrs duration offered in 8
semesters. The study plan ensures a systematic acquisition of necessary
knowledge, skills, and attitude to function as competent primary eye care

Admission Requirements

For students to
enroll in Bachelor of Optometry requires: The completion of the high school
(Grade 12) courses with a minimum grade of “C” in each course: Chemistry,
Biology, physics, English, and pure Mathematics. A student may be exempted from
the Foundation Program area requirements by presenting an equivalent
qualification, (IELTS or TOEFL, SAT and ICDL) or passing the challenge exam.
Approval of prior learning: candidates employed in Oman with Post-Secondary
(Post GED or equivalent) Diploma qualifications may be granted advanced
standing based on their qualifications and a minimum of 2 years continuous work
experience in a hospital or other healthcare and health services industry
subject to the specific conditions of the UoB’s policies on the matter. Registered
students in foundation courses shall not be allowed to register in any other
credit courses unless they successfully complete all the foundation courses.
