The DMA is aimed at those wishing to undertake advanced research in music composition or performance. It involves scholarly research, in the form of a supervised research thesis, and performance practice (such as a public music performance or the presentation of compositions).
You will make a significant contribution both intellectually and in practice to the interpretative and/or technical practice of musical performance, or of musical composition.
The degree involves a combination of written and practical work (in composition or performance). For information on requirements for each of these disciplines, see the Regulations for the Doctor of Musical Arts.
The DMA takes between 3 years of full-time study or 6 years part-time. Participants can start at the beginning of any month.
