Poonch Rawalakot (UPR) at Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, is a public
university founded in 2012 and is spread over 3 campuses. It supports a diverse
student population with over 200 teaching faculty across 6 faculties and 28
departments. The university has 3 different campuses: The Main campus in
Rawalakot, the Kahuta campus, and the Mong campus. Situated in the valley of Kashmir is situated
between the Himalayas and Pir Panjal Range, formed by the river Jhelum. It was
called “Paradise on Earth” by the celebrated Mughal Emperor Jahangir. Azad
Jammu and Kashmir are administratively divided into three divisions:
Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, and Poonch. Poonch is a distinguished territory recognized for its wonderful nature and socio-political history that goes back
to the distant past. The people of Poonch are known for their courage, bravery,
sacrifice, and struggle for emancipation since centuries ago.
Rawalakot is a
beautiful lush green valley in the Poonch division, located about 120
kilometers North-East of Islamabad at an altitude of 1,615 meters from sea
level. The valley is surrounded by high peaks. Because of its pleasant summer,
the city is attaining the status of a city of conferences. Scientists from all
over the world participate in international scientific conferences held at UPR
almost every year.
Kahuta-Haveli
Campus: Forward Kahuta is a town in the Haveli District of Azad
Kashmir. Despite of extremely remote setup, the people of this district are
highly educated as compared to other districts of Azad Kashmir. The University of
Poonch Rawalakot launched the “Kahuta Haveli Campus” on June 12, 2015. In the
campus offers undergraduate degree programs in the disciplines of Education,
English, and Computer Sciences.
Mong Campus: Mong
is situated at a distance of 35 km from Rawalakot. The university, only after 2
years of its establishment department of geology and launched the undergraduate
program. The campus also now offers degrees in education.
Studying at UPR, surrounded by the beautiful lush green valley in the Poonch division, provides a
conducive learning environment for students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
Today’s UPR provides undergraduate and graduate in various fields of
agriculture, basic and applied sciences, engineering, medicine, health science, management,
humanities, social sciences, veterinary and animal sciences, as well as offering
a number of professional degrees. Now, ten years into its establishment, the
university, built upon founding ideals and ambitions, has been at the forefront
of offering high-quality education, as well as providing conducive environments
for students, faculty, and staff towards the increasing commitment of UPR to
