If you are highly ambitious and motivated to immerse yourself in the cutting-edge world of physics research, this 5-year integrated Masters is for you.
The degree builds on the foundation of our BSc (Hons) Physics and the research specialisms of the department and culminates in an extended 80-credit individual project that starts between Years 4 and 5.
Our curriculum is influenced and delivered by our world-leading academics who bring their passion for cutting-edge science to all aspects of their teaching.  From lectures and workshops to state-of-the art laboratories and computer classes, you will find a challenging and engaging portfolio of activities dive into.
From the start of your degree, you will focus on developing your understanding of the fascinating world of classical and modern physics.
As you explore the key concepts in physics, our tailored mathematics modules will equip you with the essential tools to support and strengthen your problem-solving skills. These are complemented by hands-on computational and experimental labs, offering a well-rounded, practical approach to tackling real-world challenges.
You'll also take part in communication modules designed to help you express your ideas clearly and confidently preparing you for life beyond university.
Our sunlit (and completely dark!) experimental laboratories have recently undergone a multimillion-pound refurbishment. Here you'll develop your practical skills using industry-grade equipment. Your analytical and data interpretation expertise skills and problem-solving ability will continue to expand through the years and culminate in tackling a project in one of the department’s research groups.
Like the MPhys Physics, you'll be immersed in a curriculum designed to meet the demands of modern research and you'll choose a set of modules linked to our world-leading research such as quantum optics, plasma physics, atomic and molecular physics, nanoscience and photonics.
By collaborating with our experienced research groups to manage a long-term individual research project, you will find you can tackle more complex problems, have freedom to lead the direction of research all while developing independent research skills and possibly publishing your work.
