If you’re looking for ways to progress your career to the next level, an MBA can help provide you with the experiences, skills and professional network you require.
That was certainly the case for Prakash Chanderia, who was working in the technology sector after studying a master’s degree in computer applications.
Despite having worked in diverse roles for a range of tech companies – including startups, service providers, and product-focused organisations – Prakash realised they needed a more comprehensive understanding of the broader business landscape.
He told us: “While I’ve picked up business insights through experience, they’ve been fragmented, and I sought a structured framework to sharpen my business acumen. I wanted to learn how strategic decisions are made and the reasoning behind them.”
Prakash studied the online MBA – known as the iMBA – at Gies College of Business, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, graduating in 2024. We spoke to Prakash to learn more about his experiences so far and to find out how the iMBA at Gies Business is preparing him to take the next steps professionally.
Why was an online MBA the best fit for you?
I realised an online MBA was the best fit for me after evaluating various factors. A full-time MBA abroad was not practical, as it would have required a significant career break and involved substantial costs, both in tuition and lost earning opportunities.
Given my situation, I needed a programme that allowed me to continue working while pursuing my education.
I wasn’t seeking to change industries; rather, I was focused on gaining insights and skills that I could apply immediately in my current role. The flexibility and practical nature of an online MBA perfectly met these needs, making it the ideal choice for me.
