The Bachelor Degree in Computer Engineering Program was established in September 1992 at the Department of Computer Engineering to meet the market demand for qualified computer engineers both locally and regionally. Since the date of establishment, the total number of more than 610 undergraduate students enrolled in the Program. Our efforts are focused on providing students with the necessary knowledge and experience that enable them to compete in the labor market of the 21st century. More than 540 engineers have graduated from the Program and are serving their communities by working in private corporations or local governments.

The Program has qualified and experienced full-time faculty members consisting of 1 associate professor, 3 assistant professors, 1 lecturer, 2 laboratory engineers, and one technician. The Program of Computer Engineering has a range of well-equipped laboratories such as Embedded Systems lab, Microprocessors lab, Computer Networks lab, Computer Architecture lab, Digital Logic Circuits and Advanced Digital Design labs.

The department constantly updates its program to meet the future needs. In this context, the department has established a system that conforms to the highest academic standards.

Moreover, and according to the regulations of Ministry of Higher Education in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, no student with an average less than 80%, in the Scientific Branch of the Jordanian General High School Exam (JGHSE), or its equivalent exams abroad, is admitted in engineering programs. JGHSE is a national examination administered by the Ministry of Education and it is locally called “Tawjihi”. Undergraduate students are admitted to the CE program in the following ways:

1. First time freshmen who enter the university with the intention of entering the CE program directly from high school.

2. Change of major students who enter the CE program from other AAU programs.

3. Transfer students admitted from other colleges. These include students entering from two- or three-years’ junior colleges where they may have obtained certificates or associate degrees in some applied science.

4. Transfer students admitted from other universities. These include students entering from the same or similar program (computer engineering) where they may have successfully completed a number of courses as those in CE curriculum.

After admission, all students attend the same classes, have the same exams and get the same certification. The admission is done on a competitive basis. Students with the higher grades will be given priority in admission.

The recent accreditation effort was successful and the Computer  Engineering Department has been accredited by the Engineering  Accreditation Commission (EAC) of ABET in 2021.
