The Department of Arts and Sciences was established in 1995 with the aim of teaching courses in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English, Economics and Sociology for Engineering and Architecture departments. The Department of Arts and Sciences has introduced  M.S Program in Mathematics  starting from Spring 2010 under the Faculty of Engineering, AUST which is approved by the UGC Bangladesh and presently a number of good students are studying in this program. The MS will have specialization in Applied Mathematics, Computing Mathematics, Financial Mathematics and Bio-Mathematics.

The Department is blessed with smart, resourceful and quick-witted faculties having degrees from renowned institutions of home and abroad, working relentlessly to create more scopes of learning and research by introducing postgraduate programs in various fields of sciences. In the Mathematics discipline of the Department of Arts and Sciences is serving with 11 (eleven) full-time along with 9 (nine) part-time faculty members including 2 (two) part time with full load lecturers (PTFL) who possess excellent academic background. Faculty’s research interests cover several areas of applied mathematics like Numerical Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Mathematical Modeling, Traffic Flow Model, Heat and Mass Transfer Analysis using base fluid and nanofluids, Bio Fluid Dynamics, Computational Hemodynamics, Biomedical Imaging, Operation Research, Statistical Analysis, etc. The aim of this M.S. program is to provide quality education to the students and produce quality specialists in the different fields of Mathematics.
