Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) started full-fledged undergraduate program of Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) through the establishment of the department of Mechanical and Production Engineering (MPE) in April, 2010. This program enrolls a total of 100 students per semester. The total enrollment in the four-year (eight semester) B.Sc. Engineering degree program is about 800. A class size of about 50 students is maintained for effective teaching. The program is accredited by the Institute of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB). The program is enlightened with expert faculties, professors, a number of young and energetic faculties with Ph.D. and M.Sc. degrees in relevant fields. More than 1600 students have graduated from the IPE program and are now working in Bangladesh and overseas.

Industrial and Production Engineering (IPE) is an engineering program that deals with the design of human effort and system efficiency in all occupations: agricultural, manufacturing and service. This program deals with the problems concerned with Manufacturing Processes and Control on one hand and on the other hand it deals with problems of Industrial Systems and Modelling. Manufacturing processes and systems explains how parts are made and how manufacturing systems communicate. Manufacturing process deals directly with materials forming, cutting, shaping, and planning. Manufacturing systems focus on the integration of manufacturing process, usually through computer control and communications. Industrial Engineering was originally focused on improving the operation of a system, industrial engineers are now involved in the design of systems and processes to produce and deliver goods and services in all types of organization. We work to integrate systems involving people, materials, facilities, finances, equipment, energy, and information. Our objective is to achieve the best possible results in terms of quality, productivity, and safety. Industrial and Production Engineers are working in manufacturing, banks, hospitals, government organizations, transportation, construction, processing, social services, electronics, facility design, safety, and warehousing.

Students can learn Operations Research, Applied Probability and Statistics, Multiple Criteria Decision Making, Optimization, Simulation, Quality Engineering and Control, Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Healthcare Systems Engineering, Production and Distribution Systems, Supply Chain Engineering and Logistics, Ergonomics and Safety Engineering, Data Analytics, Product Design and Development, Computer Aided Design, Manufacturing Processes, Smart and Intelligent Manufacturing, Manufacturing System Informatics and Control, Advanced Materials and Manufacturing, Robotics, Metrology, etc. during their undergraduate study periods and research.

Students of IPE have participated in the most diversified competitions and extracurricular activities throughout the years. It ranges from visiting different industries for attachments to winning national and international design competitions. Students from IPE have participated in prestigious competition and certification courses and obtained many awards and professional certification.

IPE students at AUST emerge as the next generation of leaders in industry, research, academia, and beyond. Besides, producing efficient engineers, the department of Industrial and Production Engineering always strives for developing graduates as future leaders of the country who can contribute to the sustainable development of the country through augmenting our industries to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs). As Bangladesh has significantly moved towards cleaner and greener manufacturing in recent years; IPE, AUST constantly trying to keep up skills readiness for achieving SDG and adopting Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR4). AUST has taken steps to adopt blended learning and enhance outcome-based education (OBE) within the framework of the Washington Accord. COL is supporting AUST in strengthening its capacity to leverage technology-enabled learning (TEL) effectively to improve student learning. As we have a big vision for growth in the future, TEL will be a vital role for the next stage of our industrialization with regards to sustainability, competitiveness and creating decent employment.

We are providing industrial solutions for sustainable manufacturing in many areas of business concerns ranging from process to shipbuilding, and also successfully completed a project in collaboration with Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA), Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), and Aalborg University, Denmark called ‘POHS-BD’ with the objective of creating knowledge regarding sustainable co-development between Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and productivity improvement in the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) industry in Bangladesh. In support of industrial collaboration another project is ongoing with the Embassy of Denmark, BGMEA and the University of Southern Denmark called ‘NIPOSH’.

We are Innovators. Continuously we are empowering production and optimizing future. We are AUST IPE.
