The Department of Civil Engineering was established in 1995. It started its journey through its undergraduate program in Civil Engineering. The total enrolment in the 4-year B.Sc. program is about 1000. Since 2011, the department has also offered Masters Degrees in Civil Engineering. The Department of Civil Engineering has established eight (8) laboratories with sophisticated equipment on the university campus.
The main aim and objective of this department is to offer a program covering all important branches and disciplines of Civil Engineering. The department covers a wide range of course curriculum and has well-equipped laboratory facilities. The B.Sc. degree offered by the Department of Civil Engineering at AUST has been officially recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB). The degree is accredited by the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE).
The Department is actively involved in the activities of the national and international engineering professional bodies. Apart from providing the academic programs, the department is planning to offer materials testing and consultation services by using its laboratories equipped with highly sophisticated and modern equipment and through its highly qualified and experienced faculty members. Comprehensive training on computer aided design, drawing and project management through Centre for Extension Service of the University is also included in its planning program. The Department arranges field visits, study tours, seminars, and programs as part of students' co-curricular activities. Different events like Job Fair, inter-university student competition programs, sport tournaments, Dealika, etc. are regularly organized as part of students' extra-curricular activities.
