Admission Requirements
Admission criteria
To be eligible, an applicant must have achieved the following minimum entry requirement and demonstrate they fulfil any prerequisite and essential criteria for admission. In cases where there are more eligible applicants than available places, admission will be competitive with ranks based on the entry criteria.
- A completed bachelor degree (AQF level 7) or higher in a health-related field from a recognised higher education institution; OR
- A completed bachelor degree (AQF level 7) or higher in a non-health field from a recognised higher education institution, plus the equivalent of 12 units (0.250 EFTSL) of dedicated Human Anatomy and Physiology undertaken at AQF Level 7 (bachelor degree level) or higher.
Essential requirements
- Prior to admission, applicants must meet some professional registration requirements set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). These include the English Language Skills standard. Applicants will complete a declaration stating how they demonstrate English language proficiency, which in some cases may require provision of English language test results.
- Upon entry to the program, all students must confirm they meet Fitness to Practice in Clinical Placements requirements.
This degree requires a Grade Point Average (GPA) equivalent to an Adelaide University 5.0 on a 7-point scale for entry.
Additional requirements
- Students are required to be registered with the NMBA prior to their first Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE). Students who are refused registration or who have their registration rescinded will be unable to continue in the program.
- The program’s progression policies and rules ensure that only those students who have demonstrated the requisite knowledge and skills required for safe practice are eligible for Midwifery Practice Experience (MPE).
- The university has processes in place to manage students with identified impairments that, in the course of MPE, may place the public at risk. These processes include procedures for mandatory reporting where required.
- Students must meet the relevant compulsory compliance requirements prior to MPE, including specified immunisations, mandatory training and National Police Clearance including with Children checks.
