Cebu Normal University (CNU) is a state-funded higher education institution in the Philippines known for its track record of excellence in instruction, research, extension, and publication. The university is a recipient of the highest Level IV accreditation by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP) and the ISO 9001:2015 certification. Quality instruction is evidenced by the exemplary performance of graduates in the licensure examinations for teachers and nurses with topnotchers. There is a strong research culture in the university supported by the Center for Research and Development and the five Research Institutes: Research Institute for Tropical Biology and Biotechnology, Research Institute for Computational Mathematics and Physics, Research Institute for Aging and Health, Research Institute of Public Governance, and Institute for Research in Innovative Instructional Delivery. The academic work of the faculty members is published in reputable journals, cited by their peers, and translated into policies and projects that make an impact in the community. In addition, the university’s Journal for Higher Education has an ASEAN-indexed citation.
CNU has a track record of pursuing programs and initiatives for its partner communities under the E-HELP (Education, Health, Environment, Livelihood, and Peace) Program. At present, it has 49 extension projects in over 12 communities. The university has ranked 14th and 15th, respectively, for the 2021 and 2022 World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) under the Crisis Management category for its I-CARE (CNU Assistance and Relief Effort) Program. CNU was also the national finalist for the CHED GAWAD Edukampyon 2021 (Flexible Teaching and Learning Innovation). All projects are anchored on needs analysis studies, and where applicable, impact studies have been pursued and published.
As part of its quality policy, Cebu Normal University commits itself to deliver excellence in education, research, and extension services toward global competitiveness, to meet the increasing levels of customer demand, and statutory, regulatory, and international standards through continuous quality improvement and good governance. The university has three campuses located in Cebu City, Balamban, and Medellin. The main campus has four colleges including: College of Teacher Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing, and CNU-Vicente-Sotto Memorial Medical Center College of Medicine. As one of the original normal schools in the country, the College of Teacher Education of the university has been identified as a Center of Excellence by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and a Center for Training by the Department of Education (DepEd). The College of Nursing is also identified as a Center of Excellence.
