The University holds NAAC A+ accreditation (second cycle), UGC Category II status, and ISO 9001:2015 & ISO 14001:2015 certifications. It has consistently featured among India’s Top 100 Universities in NIRF Rankings for seven consecutive years, securing 77th position in the University Category, 20th in Pharmacy,40th in Law and in Band 11-50 in SDG category in NIRF-2025. The University marked a milestone with its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026 in the 601–800 band, and ranked 10th in the Research Quality parameter in India. CU Punjab continues to gain visibility across IIRF, India Today Rankings, SCImago Institutions Rankings, Nature Index and Webometrics.
Its research ecosystem continues to grow rapidly, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, the Central Instrumentation Facility, animal and plant research facilities and specialized departmental laboratories. Faculty and scholars have together contributed over 4,500 SCOPUS-indexed research publications, with an impressive h-index of 119 and 1,12,698+ citations. The University has secured over ₹105 crore in extramural research funding, with nine departments receiving DST-FIST support. Global recognition of CU Punjab’s research strength is further illustrated by 22 faculty members, one research associate and two research scholars featuring in Stanford University’s List of Top 2% Global Scientists 2025. Innovation and societal outreach form another defining dimension of CU Punjab. The university focuses to promote and support student innovations and sustainable start-ups. The CUPRDF i-TBI NIDHI Incubator, E-Yuva Centre and Idea Lab promote entrepreneurship, start-ups and student-led innovation. The Dr. Ambedkar Centre of Excellence, providing free civil services coaching to SC/OBC learners, demonstrates the University’s deep commitment to equitable access and social empowerment. CU Punjab students have repeatedly excelled at national platforms, including consecutive victories in the 15th and 16th National Youth Parliament Competitions.
CUP is committed to the social cause of not only the region, but the whole nation, and actively participates in flagship programmes of various Ministries. Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Community Development Cell, NSS Cell and Pro-Bono club, the university is spreading awareness among masses and is promoting environment, health and legal awareness in rural areas specifically in the villages adopted by the university (Jhumba, Ghudda, Baho-Yatri, Jai Singhwala, Guru ke, Mann, Badal) and in other nearby villages.
The University has witnessed rapid infrastructural expansion under the visionary leadership, where NEP-2020 implementation, academic reforms, and national/international partnerships have been strengthened. Today, CU Punjab alumni are contributing significantly to academia, industry, public administration and global organisations, enriching the University’s legacy of excellence. With a much-focused approach, the university is undoubtedly poised to write a new chapter on the academic horizon of the nation.
