The Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) offer a Doctor of Philosophy in Applied Mathematics and Statistics. The PhD program is sufficiently flexible to prepare candidates for careers in industry, government and academia. A course of study leading to the PhD degree can be designed either for students who have completed a Master of Science degree or for students with a Bachelor of Science degree. The Doctor of Philosophy requires 72 credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree. At least 24 of these hours must be thesis hours. Doctoral students must pass the comprehensive examination (a qualifying examination and thesis proposal), complete a satisfactory thesis, and successfully defend their thesis. The Graduate School at Mines is open to graduates from four-year baccalaureate programs at recognized colleges and universities. To be a candidate for a graduate degree, students must have completed an appropriate undergraduate degree program. Other English Language Requirements: A TOEFL?(Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score of 550 on the paper-based; A PTE?A (Pearson test of English) score of 70 or higher.
