Every year, European University Cyprus announces a limited number of positions for doctoral programs of study. All PhD program applicants will need to submit the following in order to be considered for admission:

  • Completed Application Form. A completed online application form together with the non-refundable fee of €200. Alternatively, the application form may be obtained and submitted in person from the Office of Admissions, 6 Diogenous Street, 2404 Engomi, Nicosia.
  • Statement of Ph.D. Dissertation Purpose. The applicant should describe in a coherent and comprehensive manner his/her research proposal not exceeding 1,000 words including: title/research field, aims and objectives, importance of the proposed study, literature review on the theoretical background of the idea and proposed methodology.
  • Academic Records. Official copies of bachelor’s and master’s degrees (or official letter verifying that the applicant has successfully completed all degree requirements).
  • Official copies of academic transcripts.
  • Copies of relevant publications (up to two).
  • One letter of recommendation from faculty member of higher academic institutions.
  • Other supporting documents such as awards, distinctions, etc.
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Copy of valid passport (minimum 2 years expiry-international applicants only) or copy of valid ID for EU citizens.
  • All shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. Applicants will be notified of the exact date of their interview.
  • English Language Proficiency Requirement
  • European University Cyprus requires all applicants to demonstrate English language proficiency for admission to PhD programs.  Proof of English proficiency may be provided through one of the following:


  1. A secondary (high) school leaving certificate from an institution where English is the language of instruction.
  2. A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized higher education institution where English is the language of instruction.
  3. An internationally recognized English language qualification aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) at level B2 or above.
  4. An Internationally recognized English language qualification is compulsory for non-EU applicants applying for a student visa to study in Cyprus.


English Language Proficiency Exemption Candidates holding British, Canadian, Australian, US or New Zealand nationality are exempt from English language requirements.
