The PhD in Law is the highest degree offered by the School of Law at EUC. The PhD degree is addressed to candidates with advanced research interests in the science of law who are capable of conducting research in the field of legal science including a completion of a dissertation setting out and analyzing their research results.

PhD students will have the opportunity to conduct research in the dynamic and continuously developing research team of the School of Law of EUC, under the supervision of faculty members. At the same time, they will have to take research methodology modules and attend seminars on advanced legal issues in the context of which they will have to produce relevant coursework, which they will have the opportunity to present in seminars or conferences within and outside the university.

Applicants seeking admission to the Program must hold:

  • A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university in Cyprus or abroad, and
  • A Master’s Degree in Law or in a related field (such as Political Science, Administrative Science, or Public Administration) from a recognized university in Cyprus or abroad.


Applicants must demonstrate a strong academic background, and their Master’s Degree average grade should be at least a “B” (80/100) or “Very Good,” according to the grading system of European University Cyprus. In exceptional cases, the School may consider applicants with a lower average grade, taking into account their performance in courses related to doctoral research, as well as their previous professional and/or research experience.

In special cases, applicants who do not hold a Law degree may also be admitted to the Program, subject to justified approval, provided that they hold a Master’s Degree in Law and demonstrate sufficient familiarity with legal science, ensuring the potential for successful completion of doctoral studies. The admission decision may require the candidate to successfully complete specific courses and/or seminars offered by the School of Law.

Applicants must also demonstrate excellent knowledge of the Greek language, which is the language the program is offered, as well as very good knowledge of English, French, or German, in accordance with the criteria established by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth of Cyprus. Knowledge of a second and/or third European language will be considered an additional qualification.

Following an evaluation of the applicant’s previous academic studies, as well as any relevant research activity related to the Program’s area of specialization, the School Council reserves the right to require applicants to attend specific postgraduate courses and/or successfully complete specific examinations or assessments prior to final admission to the Program.
