We invite candidates from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, with evidence of academic excellence, research ability and potential, and good communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities to apply for full-time PhD study under the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). HKPFS is established by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) with an aim to attract the best and brightest students from all over the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong. Applicants for admission to our PhD programmes via HKPFS will concurrently be considered for our regular research postgraduate programmes. Fields of study in this programme include: Contemporary China Music Studies (including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Chinese diaspora); Performance Practice Studies and Research; Piano Pedagogy; Music Education; Historical Musicology and East-West Musicological Research; Composition; Music Technology/Computer Music; Ethnomusicology.

Its Graduate School, established in 2002, plays a major role in offering postgraduate programmes to meet societal needs, and in facilitating research advancement for the benefit of the humankind. Ever since its establishment, the Graduate School has grown rapidly both in terms of the spectrum of programmes offered, the number of students enrolled, and the diversity of research projects it manages. Currently, the number of postgraduate students accounts for approximately 40% of the University's total enrolment and there are also over 700 ongoing research projects, generating research outputs that attract international collaboration and recognition.
