Klaipėda University (KU) wasestablished in 1991 by signed Decree No. 1-640 of the Supreme Council(Reconstituent Seimas) of the Republic of Lithuania. KlaipedaUniversity develops basic and applied research in social, natural, healthsciences and technologies with strong focus on marinebiodiversity, maritime engineering, marinistic heritage, and blue growth. Since 2008, KU has beenimplementing Marine Valley project for science and business cooperationin knowledge transfer. KU has developeda modern research infrastructure which consists of open access laboratories,business incubator, and fleet. Klaipeda University has highly qualifiedand motivated academic staff, and around 60% of them are with PhD.Klaipeda University has a wide variety of studies in social, health, naturalscience, humanities and technologies for BA, MA and doctorallevels. Klaipeda University is the only university in Lithuania thatimplements such BA and MA study programs as Marine Hydrology, MarineEnvironment Engineering, Shipping and Port Engineering.

KU developslong-term strategically cherished social and business partnerships withcompanies in Baltic Sea region. Klaipėda University actively collaborates withthe countries in Europe and the world (the USA, China, Israel, the Ukraine,etc.) in the implementation of different projects (BP7, Horizon 2020,ErasmusPlius); however strong focus is on projects within a frameworks suchas Baltic Sea Region; South Baltic Cross-Border Cooperation; Latvia –Lithuania Cross Border; Lithuania – Poland – Russia Cross BorderCooperation. Since 2019 Klaipeda University has participated in EU-CONEXUS which isthe transnational European University for Smart Urban CoastalSustainability. EU-CONEXUS partners institutions are located in France,Greece, Romania, Lithuania, Spain and Croatia.
