Master of Chemistry

Breakthroughs in chemistry can change the texture of our lives. The Master of Chemistry imparts in its students insight into the composition, structure and properties of matter, and the design, synthesis and development of new (bio)molecular materials.

About the programme

The programme trains students to conduct research in an industrial or academic setting. Upon completion of the programme, you will be able to translate a given problem into a chemical research question and explore the answer to this question based on your knowledge of specific and advanced chemistry topics in an interdisciplinary context. You will also have acquired the skill of reporting your findings to peers and non-experts.

The full programme comprises 120 ECTS credits:

  • 18 ECTS for compulsory courses
  • 42 ECTS for electives. The elective courses are clustered in three tracks:

Theoretical and Structural Chemistry

Sustainable Chemistry

Nanostructured Materials

  • 30 ECTS for an external internship (in industry or a research institute)
  • 30 ECTS for the master's thesis
Career perspectives

Many career options are available to our graduates. More than half of our alumni work in the industrial field, while others are employed within academia and other research institutes.

The chemical industry is a major sector throughout Europe and the world. Possible employment in this field is enhanced by obtaining a PhD. Professional domains where chemists are required include petrochemistry, the medical sector, the pharmaceutical industry, agrochemistry, food industry, government and public administration, and other research institutes.
