The Master of Science in Economics is a one-year Master programme, oriented towards students with broad interests in social and scientific matters who are capable of critical and creative thinking. This programme offers you a theoretical framework and an in-depth training in economic theory and econometrics, allowing you to provide well-grounded answers to socio-economic questions.

Programme structure

The programme offers you a theoretical framework and an in-depth training in economic theory, econometrics and applied economics which allows you to provide well-grounded answers to socio-economic questions. You should have an interest in the dynamics of economy and society, the ability to analyse, synthesise and interpret information. The programme consists of a common core of three programme units (Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Econometrics) and a master's thesis. You complete your programme by choosing courses out of the elective groups.

Admission requirements

To be eligible for the Master of Science in Economics, you have to hold an academic bachelor’s degree in either economics or business economics that is equivalent to one of the following KU Leuven degrees:

  • BSc in Economics
  • BSc in Business Economics
  • BSc in Business Engineering
Students need a solid background in:

  • microeconomics and macroeconomics
  • mathematics, statistics and econometrics
  • other courses in economics.
