West Kazakhstan Marat Ospanov Medical University

The history of the West Kazakhstan  Marat Ospanov  Medical University (WKMU) began in 1957 - by order of the Ministry of Higher Education of the USSR, in order to provide Western and North-West Kazakhstan with qualified medical personnel, the Aktobe State Medical Institute was created on September 1, 1957. On the one hand, this is an impressive date with a long history, significant experience and traditions, on the other hand, the University continues to actively develop, introducing innovative technologies in the areas of the trinity of education, science and clinical practice.

WKMU has five educational and laboratory buildings, a scientific and medical library with reading and computer rooms with Internet access, a scientific and practical center, a practical skills center, an editorial and publishing center, a professional growth center, etc.

WKMU also has 73 classrooms. For lectures, 10 classrooms are used, which are equipped with modern equipment necessary for giving lectures. The total area of ​​educational buildings is 29,894 m2 with a total number of seats - 3045, which is sufficient for the effective implementation of educational activities at all levels of professional and additional vocational education.

To train students, the University uses its own clinics: Medical Center, Family Medicine Clinic.

On the balance sheet of WKMU there are 5 student dormitories, designed for 2011 places of residence and intended to accommodate non-resident and foreign students.

At the same time, for the 150th anniversary of the city of Aktobe, the sports complex “Zhastar Arena” opened at WKMU, which was built at its own expense as part of the implementation of the order of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N. Nazarbayev on the construction of 100 sports and recreation complexes in Kazakhstan, as well as for conducting classes in physical education, introduction of sports and rehabilitation methods of treatment, strengthening the physical health of students and teaching staff. The complex has gyms, a stadium with a football field, running tracks and sectors for long and high jumps. The university has 26 sports improvement sections in more than 20 sports.

Today, WKMU is one of the leading higher educational institutions for the training of medical personnel, and is a city-forming, scientific and cultural center not only of the city of Aktobe, but also of the entire Western region of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It has gone through a glorious path in its formation and development, from the first days declaring itself as a center of education and science. The university is rightfully proud of its teachers, among whom there are many outstanding scientists - the founders of famous scientific schools.

The main achievement of the university is its graduates, many of whom are highly qualified specialists, scientists, public figures, talented doctors and work successfully not only in the Republic of Kazakhstan, but also abroad.
