Food and CPG marketing is a concentration within the B.S. marketing degree. Hence, food marketing students must complete the same general education and core business courses that are required by all students in the College of Business Administration. The only difference between the B.S marketing degree and the B.S. marketing, food and CPG concentration, is the set of core marketing courses required. The food marketing and CPG (consumer packaged goods) concentration provides students with complete immersion in food marketing concepts and practices through hands-on learning, internships, and career opportunities. In addition, today's lifestyle and media trends mandate the offering of education in social media, mobile apps, and big data metrics. Other prospective activities include a lecture series and industry forums where faculty, industry executives, and others can gather to discuss and share information. The curriculum has been developed in close consultation with food industry experts and professionals to deliver the most impactful and relevant learning experience of any program of its kind in the world. Students take five core food marketing classes and master key required industry skills by participating in sponsored internship programs and industry certifications. Each of these courses incorporates case studies and applications provided by industry members to enhance student knowledge of current industry issues and challenges. In addition, each food marketing class includes significant participation by industry experts. Food Marketing Mission NU seeks committed and passionate students who are curious and willing to learn. Employers pursue the same characteristics, but also recruit and hire students exhibiting confidence, effective communication skills, teamwork and leadership, outstanding critical thinking and analytical skills, and a working understanding of the food industry within the various operational disciplines – finance and accounting, marketing and sales, logistics and distribution, product development, customer and competitor analysis, etc. Since graduates can “hit the ground running†and minimize orientation and training time, food marketing graduates are more meaningful and positive contributors to industry organizations. As a result, they are valued employees, highly sought after candidates for food industry companies, nationally and around the world. As such, the key goals for the program are: Prepare students for sales and management positions with food and consumer packaged goods manufacturers and brokers, as well as food retailers and wholesalers. Enable students to add value to their place of employments from the day of hire, using current industry analytics and tools, as well as strong analytical, technical and communication competencies. Pair students with an industry executive who will serve as an industry mentor for the duration of their education. Imbue students with a deep understanding of global issues in food safety and the inequities of food distribution in the U.S. and the world.
