The exercise and sport science major grounds students in the movement sciences, which promotes improvements in health, fitness, and/or performance for the physically active. Recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), the program prepares students to use science within exercise and human movement disciplines. Graduates may immediately begin an exciting career in exercise science. What you'll study: Core coursework provides foundational knowledge in kinesiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology and much more. Expert faculty members teach you motor learning, exercise prescription with a lab, along with strength and conditioning and adapted physical education. Your courses and internships are directly applicable to the work setting. How you'll learn more: The exercise science major gives students the opportunity to explore the movement sciences and directly apply practical skills. Students will have challenging and rewarding practicum experiences with a physically active population, such as sports performance clinics, fitness centers, the Special Olympics, hospital settings, and NSU's strength and conditioning centers. Where it can take you: Graduates in sport science will be ready to work as an exercise specialist, fitness and wellness coordinator, sport performance researcher, and strength and conditioning specialist. Become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) or pursue similar certifications. You may also advance into professional graduate programs in exercise sciences and other fields, such as biomechanics, exercise physiology, and motor behavior.
