This new program is both cutting edge and respectful of the traditional scholarly strengths of gender studies and women’s studies. It encourages interdisciplinary approaches and supports new ways of looking at issues of sex and gender. The dynamic and diverse nature of our program suits the social, cultural and educational needs of local/global societies that are becoming increasingly fragmented and complex. Our areas of focus include: (1) Activism, social justice and political economy; (2) Representation, art, popular culture, cultural production and literatures; (3) (Post)colonial, migratory and diasporic communities; AND (4) Feminist and gender theories including critical race/anti-racist theory, queer theory and feminist pedagogies.
