The Master of Music Education Degree is for the practicing music educator who wants to expand their knowledge and professional expertise. The degree consists of 30-credit program, with short, focused summer session on campus and online courses offered year round. Critical to the program is a practicum experience where instructors work with students in their current position. Southern Utah University's Master of Music Education is a 30-credit graduate program designed specifically for current music teachers. Teachers will utilize their classrooms as experimental laboratories while they master best practices and refine their group leadership, making it easier to convey the complexities -and the wonder- of musicality to students. Music education brings the world of the arts into the classroom, connecting children to history, culture, and creativity through hands-on experience with musical instruments. Music teachers across the nation enrich student learning and foster imaginative expression in their choirs, bands, and orchestras. A Master’s degree in music education can help educators broaden their pedagogy, actively connect with students, and grow as artists themselves. Furthermore, the Master of Music Education degree at SUU also offers a significant number of electives, allowing students to take courses suited to their unique interests and needs. Current topics, independent study, graduate-level education, arts administration, and music technology courses may all potentially apply to the Master of Music Education, making it a highly flexible and individualized degree. New cohorts start each summer semester. Students will meet at SUU for a three week on-campus session in June, then complete the bulk of their course work online throughout the school year, tailored to match the schedules of busy teachers. SUU’s talented and qualified faculty work directly with program students to offer a personalized and meaningful education with lasting impacts, helping music teachers enrich the lives of school children across the nation.
