About Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta
Established in 1957, State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta (also known as UIN Jakarta) is the preeminent and most esteemed Islamic state university in Indonesia, operating under the auspices of the MORA (Ministry of Religious Affairs). Syarif Hidayatullah, one of the most venerated Islamic saints in Java, was honored with its naming. Born in Cairo, Egypt in 1448, he passed away in 1568 in Cirebon, West Java, It is Indonesia's largest and most prestigious Islamic university. However, university studies are not limited to religious topics. I t has twelve faculties, which include economics and business, health science, medicine, education, social and political studies, communication, humanities, science and technology, law, Islamic theology, Islamic studies, and psychology.
The university boasts affiliations with more than 2000 academics, including rectors, deans, and lecturers of Islamic State Universities across Indonesia, and over 27218 Kyais (heads of Islamic boarding schools). The 83-hectare campus of UIN Jakarta, located in Ciputat, Tangerang Selatan, Banten province, is home to eleven faculties and study institutes specializing in Islamic studies and other advanced scientific disciplines. The University is widely recognized for hosting the Ciputat School, which is credited with introducing modern Islam, an Islamic worldview that incorporates scientific principles and values. Furthermore, the university assumes a critical and strategic function in bolstering gender equality, democracy, and tolerance within Indonesia.
