The Faculty of Sciences is one of the most traditional at the University of Oviedo. In the eighties of the 20th century, it gave rise to the faculties of Chemistry, Geology, and Biology. In the following decade, it was reconstituted with the studies of Physics and Mathematics.
The center currently teaches the teachings leading to the Physics Degree and the Mathematics Degree, as well as the still active subjects of the homonymous degrees in extinction. It also offers the Double Degree in Physics + Mathematics and the Double Degree in Mathematics + Physics. As postgraduate studies, it has a PhD in Mathematics and Statistics, the Master's Degree in Advanced Physics. Particles, Astrophysics, Nanophysics, and Quantum Materials, the Master's Degree in Initiation to Research in Mathematics and the Master's Degree in Mathematical Modeling, Statistics and Computing.

The duration of the Degree in Physics is 4 years. The minimum number of credits required to obtain the degree is 240 ECTS credits distributed as follows:

  • Basic Training 60 ECTS
  • Compulsory 144 ECTS
  • Electives 18 ECTS
  • Final Degree Project 18 ECTS
