As an essentially multidisciplinary field of knowledge, bioinformatics requires professionals capable of leading and coordinating diverse and dynamic teams in cutting-edge areas. In turn, bioinformatics professionals must be able to design and interpret highly specialized experiments, and instill a commitment to quality and methodological and statistical rigor within their teams. Graduates of the Bachelor's Degree in Bioinformatics will be able to:
- Solve biological problems using computer tools.
- Apply statistics and mathematical models to real-world (biological) data.
- Create automated workflows for analyzing genomes or proteomes.
- Simulate and visualize biological processes.
- Identify problems specific to biology and find solutions using computer science.
- Identify the appropriate and optimal statistical and computer tools for solving biological problems.
- Design efficient algorithms for processing large and complex biological datasets.
- Interpret mathematical models and simulate biological phenomena.
- Implement and deploy complex workflows across computing infrastructures of varying scales, from personal computers and supercomputers to cloud computing.
- Design experiments and lead teams spanning multiple disciplines in biology and computing related to genomic medicine, genomic epidemiology, structural biology, drug discovery and development, precision medicine, big data, and artificial intelligence.
- Present and communicate biological information through graphical visualizations, scientific articles, and oral presentations.
