The University of Bath was founded and received a Royal Charter in 1966 and is now established as a top 10 UK university with a reputation for research and teaching excellence.  We're highly ranked in independent league tables for overall performance, student satisfaction and graduate employment. Research and teaching excellence

Bath hold a Gold award in the Teaching Excellence Framework meaning that the teaching at the University of Bath is of the highest quality found in the UK. Bath was praised for its strong employment orientation that ensures students develop the knowledge and skills most highly valued by employers.  Our graduates are highly sought after and Bath are among the universities which were most targeted by the UK’s top employers (High Fliers Research 2020).  Bath alumni are among the highest paid in the country (LEO data 2016/17). 

According to the Research Excellence Framework - the system for assessing the quality of research in UK universities - 87% of our research was classified as world-leading or internationally excellent.

The campus and the city

In the last decade, we have invested over £450 million in our campus - this includes new accommodation, academic buildings and facilities such as our Sports Training Village which has indoor and outdoor facilities to accommodate 50 sports. Bath was named the UK’s top sports university in the influential The Times & The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018, based on the quality of our sporting facilities, the ranking of our sports-related subjects, and the performance of our student sports teams.  We host around 250 international-level athletics competitions as well as national and regional squads across 10 sports.  University of Bath-based athletes won 6 medals in the Rio 2016 Olympics.  The Edge, our £10.9 million arts and management building, opened in February 2016.

The Gothic abbey, stunning Georgian architecture and Roman Baths, which give the city its name, have led to Bath becoming the only city in England to have UNESCO World Heritage status. It is ranked as one of the safest university cities in the UK (Complete University Guide 2020).
