What does it mean to major in African American Studies? African American Studies focuses on the African American experience in the United States. From writers to musicians to theologians to politicians, African Americans have helped weave the fabric of American culture. African American Studies majors examine the history and culture of African Americans, as well as the social, economic and political issues that have shaped the African American experience. The African American Studies curriculum integrates behavioral sciences, social sciences, humanities and the arts.
