The BS Math Ed is a four-year degree program designed to prepare students to become globally competitive licensed mathematics teachers. It offers a wide range of opportunities for students to develop their Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK) in mathematics. The program blends the aspects of foundation of mathematics with the understanding of the nature of mathematics, language in mathematics education, affective aspects of mathematics learning, technology in mathematics education, mathematical problem solving, the assessment of mathematical learning, foundation, theories, principles of teaching to develop secondary mathematics teacher equipped with content and pedagogy. It also prepares graduates to the real work environment through its field study courses and student teaching experiential learning. Students are also introduced into the mathematics of business and finance to develop their entrepreneurial mind, and in foreign language to prepare graduate to the global demand of teachers. Furthermore, graduates of the program are equipped with basic knowledge in conducting action research in education to prepare them for graduate education and career as researchers in the field. Hence, a graduate of the BS Math Ed program of USTP possess a solid understanding of mathematics and are competent to teach for junior or senior high school. The BS Math Ed program envisioned to serves as a global resource of innovative mathematics teachers equipped with excellent skills in content, pedagogy, research and extension to earn national recognition as a premier Teacher Education Institution (TEI) in the field of mathematics education.
