The Department of Computer Science and Engineering has been established in the academic year 2002-2003. The department has always attracted the best of Engineering aspirants from all over the country and abroad. It is successful in producing skilled and competent Computer Engineers and Entrepreneurs ready to satisfy the needs of the industry and society at large. The department is equipped with adequate infrastructure to support academic, research and extra-curricular activities for all round development. The department offers Postgraduate and Research Programmes at the headquarters, Belagavi and PG centres at Kalaburagi, Mysuru and Muddenahalli. All the locations have serene enivirons and state of the art infrastructure to facilitate learning and research. The department has started B.Tech programme in Computer Science and Business Systems in the academic year 2020-21 The programme is supported by Tata Consultancy Services as per the MOU signed by TCS and VTU.
The faculty of the department work in all the niche areas of Computer Science and are in the fore front of research in various cutting edge domains of Information Technology. Research is pursued in various domains such as cloud computing, Computer Networking, knowledge based Intelligent systems, Computer vision, Image processing, and Internet of things etc. Funded projects from VGST/VTU are being implemented in the different centres of the department. Faculty are involved in various consultancy projects and in development of in house software services for the university.
The department follows student centric policies and students are encouraged to take up new and socially relevant projects. The faculty make use of modern technology enabled pedagogy tools for efficient teaching learning in blended mode. The department alumni work in reputed IT industries and academic institutions.
