The B.A. degree in Art History prepares students to write, speak, and analyze art and visual culture, preparing them for a wide range of careers in such sectors as museums, galleries and the art market, education, cultural heritage and cultural management. Students take introductory surveys about the art of Europe, North America, Latin America, South and East Asia, as well as in-depth courses about key themes in the history of art and visual culture in these and other world regions. Students are encouraged to undertake internships or volunteer at the Special Collections Research Center and the SUArt Galleries on campus. The Art History Major requires 30 credits of upper-division coursework drawn from a variety of historical and geographic areas ranging from Ancient and Italian Renaissance to Modern and Non-Western art. HOA 105 and 106 are prerequisites for many upper-level courses, but do not count toward the major.
