The department offers a Bachelor of Science in Chemical and Life Science Engineering, and includes a chemical engineering concentration and a life science engineering concentration. Each student must choose the desired concentration upon initial registration. As part of the B.S. degree in chemical and life science engineering, all students complete an approved internship or cooperative education experience. Learning outcomes Upon completing this program, students will know and know how to do the following: Apply knowledge of mathematics, science and engineering Design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data Design a system, component or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability and sustainability Function on multidisciplinary teams Identify, formulate and solve engineering problems Gain an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility Communicate effectively Complete the broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental and societal context Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in, lifelong learning Gain knowledge of contemporary issues Use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice Understand hazards associated with chemical, physical and/or biological processes
