The Faculty of Environment is a world-leader in responding to global challenges with over 400 staff who are actively engaged in research and teaching across a wide range of topics.

The range and scope of our research are extensive, covering earth sciences, environmental science and sustainability, human and physical geography and transport planning. Our integrated study programmes offer students many exciting opportunities to work alongside research leaders.

Fieldwork is a major part of our courses and is one of the most enjoyable parts of the study. Students gain hands-on experience, applying practical skills to real-life situations, develop their research skills and enhance project planning and team working skills valued highly by employers.

We embed employability throughout our degrees and offer students the chance to enrich their learning through study abroad, a year in industry and work experience opportunities.

Our graduates develop the skills and knowledge required to become future decision-makers, industry leaders and informed global citizens.

The Faculty of Environment achieved excellent results in the National Student Survey 2017. The School of Earth and Environment achieved 98% and the School of Geography achieved 94% overall student satisfaction.

100% of graduates from the Institute of Transport Studies secure employment in a managerial or professional role within six months of graduating (Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education 2017).

The Faculty has been awarded the Athena SWAN Bronze Award for our work on advancing gender equality across the three schools of Earth and Environment, Geography and Transport Studies.
