Programme overview
Main Subject
Chemistry
Degree
BA
Study Level
Undergraduate
Study Mode
On Campus
Chemistry degrees prepare students for a career in the central science, either through direct entry into the workforce or in further pursuit of a graduate degree. Chemistry majors are exposed to a diverse number of chemical subdisciplines, such as analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and biochemistry in both lecture and laboratory coursework.
Chemistry majors will also be assigned a faculty advisor to guide each student and help them achieve their goals. Students will also have the opportunity to work closely with world-class faculty both in research opportunities in areas such as marine nutrient analysis, protein chemistry, lanthanide extraction, computational modeling, organic reaction development, natural product isolation and chemical education.
Students interested in obtaining a graduate degree in chemistry or who wish to attend a professional school (dental, medical or veterinary) may wish to consider a degree in chemistry.
While any of the degrees offered by the department provides the opportunity for professional school admission, the Bachelor of Arts in chemistry, with fewer credit hours than the B.S. degree, allows students to explore other disciplines through electives, providing the well-rounded educational experience professional schools seek.
