With a focus on real-world relevancy, the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree continues a tradition of excellence in nursing education at The University of Tampa. This convenient, online program consists of 30 credit hours spread over six semesters. Students may choose from tracks in advanced practice nursing or nursing leadership.
Students will complete advanced-level courses in topics such as health policy and advocacy, health care leadership and management, health care informatics, clinical epidemiology, genomics and research translation. The DNP degree requires 1,000 precepted practicum hours post-baccalaureate. APRN students apply 500 hours from their MSN degree program towards the DNP. Leadership students apply practicum hours from prior graduate education on a case-by-case basis. During the DNP program, students will complete 504 practicum hours working on a clinical change project to benefit their own practice.
The DNP program’s online format, with only three required visits to campus, allows students to continue their full-time careers. UTampa nursing faculty are respected researchers and practitioners and are committed to students’ educational mastery and career advancement.

General Admission Requirements
Completed application.
Official transcripts form all post-secondary institutions of education.
A minimum cumulative GPA of a 3.0 in the previously completed nursing master’s program.
Three letters of recommendation from academic and professional references: one must be from a professor holding a doctorate from the previously completed master’s program.
Personal statement of professional goals and how admission to the DNP program will facilitate applicant’s professional goals (APA format, 500-800 words).
Copy of current licensure in the state of Florida (for APN) or RN (for Leadership in Population and Community Health); both tracks require RN license from Florida or a multi-compact state license and must remain active throughout the program.
Background check (completed upon admission).
Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR; Certification must remain active throughout the program.
Proof of professional liability insurance; professional liability insurance must remain active throughout the program.
