[The Master’s program in Architecture is designed to prepare professionals equipped with the essential skills, abilities, and aptitudes to contribute to high-quality architectural production, promote architecture, and safeguard the built heritage. Architectural interventions are expected to serve the public interest by preserving both natural and urban landscapes. Consequently, every project requires the involvement of a qualified architect with the appropriate expertise. Upon completion of the program, graduates will be proficient in designing, developing, and managing architectural projects. These core competencies are complemented by both interdisciplinary and specialized skills. The interdisciplinary skills include mastery of advanced academic communication (both oral and written), a broad cultural knowledge base, and transferable expertise applicable beyond the architectural profession. The specialized skills are discipline-specific, enabling graduates to apply theoretical and practical knowledge effectively within architectural practice. This training is structured to cultivate professionals capable of engaging in a wide range of activities within architectural production. Beyond project design, it prepares graduates to undertake research in interconnected fields such as heritage restoration and conservation, eco-construction and sustainable development, construction management and site supervision, technical consulting, and advisory services. The program also encompasses public administration, real estate appraisal, industry and enterprise, education and research, along with finance and property management. Overall, it aims to develop professionals who possess the knowledge, skills, and practical aptitude necessary to execute their responsibilities adhering to the highest professional standards. The diploma awarded qualifies graduates to practice as architects, as recognized in the Algerian Nomenclature of Professions and Employment (ANPE). This profession is legally regulated by Legislative Decree 94-07 of May 18, 1994, amended by Law 04-06 of August 14, 2004, which governs the conditions for architectural production and the professional practice of architecture. The diversity of tasks and missions entrusted to architects meets the demands of numerous sectors, organizations, and institutions related to urban services, local authorities, and the construction industry. The built environment also requires management and maintenance services, involving updating, requalification, and rehabilitation of living spaces. Private practice is also an option, contingent upon completing a professional internship and registration with the National Council of the Order of Architects. In conclusion, employability is assured according to the needs of sectors and urban and communal service agencies.]

Frequently Asked Questions

The program aims to provide students with a solid methodological foundation for developing architectural projects based on a programmatic approach that encompasses analysis, programming, and architectural design. This approach begins with data collection—assessing the needs, requirements, and constraints of the client and future users—to establish a comprehensive survey prior to any project initiation. The synthesis phase translates this analysis into a clear program, comprising both a general and a specific program. Subsequently, students progress from a surface-level program to architectural projection, organizing spaces through the development of sketches and preliminary designs. Throughout the process, students acquire the necessary tools for progressive design evolution—from initial sketches to a preliminary project—culminating in the conception of a feasible architectural project that incorporates all relevant parameters involved in the construction process.
The final year of the second cycle is dedicated to the development of the Graduation Project and the thesis. The topics are drawn from four thematic areas: Habitat, Architectural and Urban Built Heritage, Urban Architecture (Urban Design), and Architecture, Environment, and Technologies. This thematic approach is considered "transient," as these themes do not constitute formal options or specialties. They serve as frameworks for project exercises, while the educational and learning objectives remain unified across the program. The Fundamental Teaching Unit 3 (semester 3 / Master 2) integrates three subjects related to the themes of the projects and the final dissertations. This unit includes a core subject (Workshop), which synthesizes the knowledge acquired and built through the other two supporting subjects. The combination of these subjects ensures coherence and complementarity both in content and in scheduling.
1. THEMATIC AREA 1: HABITAT The concept of "inhabiting" serves as a scientific exploration of the transformations shaping the contemporary world, particularly urbanity and urbanization. Living extends beyond the mere physical need for shelter; it encompasses movement, evolution, emancipation, and communication. Public space is as integral to habitat as private housing. Activities in public spaces—walking, shopping, socializing—allow individuals to experience their integration within the social environment. This theme addresses habitat both in its broadest sense and in its specific dimensions, engaging with theoretical notions such as habitation, appropriation, and mutation, while examining their concrete manifestations across multiple scales—from individual housing units to residential complexes and urban or rural habitats. The emphasis lies on major challenges related to managing, developing, and envisioning the future of Algerian cities and residential areas. The scope includes adapting housing to urban co
The program emphasizes innovation, ecological responsibility, and cultural sensitivity, fostering architects who are equipped to create forward-thinking, sustainable spaces that respect community values.
The distribution of architectural training programs across the national territory helps meet the demands of the construction sector’s production needs. The diversity of tasks and responsibilities assigned to the profession of architect aligns with the requirements of various sectors, organizations, and institutions involved in urban services, local governance, and construction. Additionally, the building sector necessitates management and maintenance services, including activities related to upgrading, requalification, and rehabilitation of living environments. Private practice opportunities are also available for graduates. Professional accreditation requires completing a professional internship and registration with the National Register of the Order of Architects. In summary, employability is assured in proportion to the needs of urban and communal organizations and related sectors.
