We in the visual arts department at Fordham will train you in the skills, techniques, and critical understanding of the field that you need to develop your singular voice. Our class sizes are small and our perspective is big. We believe all of New York City is your campus. Museum and gallery tours, studio visits, and visiting artist lectures are an integral part of the curriculum. Study on our Lincoln Center campus for in-the-thick-of-it experience just steps from MoMA, the Guggenheim, and the Met. Or head uptown to Rose Hill, where the Visual Arts complex has a beautiful, well-lit studio space with terrazzo floors and skylights for painting and drawing, and a state-of-the-art computer lab. Either way, a short subway or train ride brings you you to the endless galleries and arts activities of Chelsea, Soho, Williamsburg, and TriBeCa. We believe educational diversity is critical to the training of an artist—and that creativity and visual understanding are integral parts of a broadly searching mind. That’s why you’ll learn more than visual arts here. You’ll also study philosophy, theology, history, literature, mathematics, languages, science, and the performing arts through Fordham’s common core curriculum, the centerpiece of our liberal arts education. Graphic Design Graphic Design introduces the student to the basic principles of design and type. Examined from a critical, social, historical and theoretical perspective, the emphasis is on how type and design engages, informs and challenges the viewer. Through assignments, internships, studio visits to professional design firms, and a final senior project, a student gains practical experience as well allowing them to develop their own creative voice.
